Biržuvėnai Manor

Dvaro adresas: , LT-

Biržuvėnai is an ancient settlement nestled in the Luokė region, surrounded by the winding Virvytė River and enchanting forests. Hidden within this landscape lies the Biržuvėnai Hillfort, a silent witness to centuries past, and the legendary hydrological spring known as Laumė’s Footprint – a site steeped in folklore and mystery. A unique feature of the estate is the way the Virvytė River gracefully encircles the manor grounds from multiple sides, creating a natural sanctuary.

The settlement was first recorded in 1253 in the land division act of Bishop Heinrich of Courland. In the 14th century, a royal manor was established here, which later transitioned into private ownership. Since 1670, the estate has been primarily governed by the Gorski family, whose legacy shaped the manor’s cultural and architectural identity.

In search of a place to cultivate sacred crafts, the Silentium Foundation for Philosophy and Spiritual Care discovered the serene and spiritually resonant surroundings of Biržuvėnai Manor. Within the historic bathhouse of the estate, they established the School of Sacred Crafts “Menantys”.

“Menantys” is devoted to the preservation and revival of sacred heritage. The school collects and studies authentic materials, safeguards traditional knowledge, reconstructs ancient techniques, and teaches these crafts to ensure their transmission to future generations. It is a living archive of spiritual artistry – where reverence for tradition meets the quiet rhythm of nature.
