Zypliai Manor – An Oasis of History, Culture, and Hospitality
Zypliai Manor, one of the most impressive Neo-Baroque manor ensembles in Lithuania, is located in the Šakiai district, near the town of Lukšiai. Its origins trace back to the early 19th century, when the land was owned by Napoleon’s marshal, knight Józef Poniatowski.
Around 1845, the first manor house was built. Under the ownership of Count Tomasz Potocki, the estate took on its present form – an elegant two-story palace with ornate dormers, a 21-hectare landscaped park, and a rich complex of auxiliary buildings.
In the early 20th century, Zypliai Manor became a hub of education and civic life, housing a seminary, an agricultural school, and a hospital. The arrival of sculptor Vidas Cikana in Lukšiai marked a turning point – he began caring for the manor buildings and initiated the first restoration efforts.
Today, 11 authentic buildings from the original ensemble remain: the ornate central palace, kitchen, two officinas, craftsman’s house, carriage house, stables, cowshed, two granaries, and a kennel. Many have been revived and now host a Cultural center, the Zanavykai Museum and the restaurant Kuchmistrai.
Zypliai Manor is no longer just a historical site – it is a vibrant cultural beacon, open to every visitor.
